#Alzheimer's Disease: Bill Gates Reveals Plan To Donate $50 million Towards Search For Cure!!! Video.

👀:sensiseeds.com

Alzheimer's, the slow death of brain cells that gradually strips an affected individual of memory and a general sense of judgement.Dementia so devastating, you don't wish it for your enemy. Did I just come across literature that says even Nigeria records more than 1.5 million cases per year? Is a cure around the corner? Is the cure going to have anything to do with medical cannabis or it's oils as some researchers already claim? Here's what the richest philanthropist in the world,Bill Gates, has to say,as he commits $50 million USD towards a series of research that may  lead to a cure.

God save the ageing brains of our fathers, grandfathers and even great grandfathers;for those who still have them around. My late maternal grandfather became a victim  towards the later part of his life,so I can testify first hand.

World #Diabetes Day 2017- Women & Diabetes:Our Right To A Healthy Future!INFOGRAPHICS.

November 14 is World Diabetes Day and this year (2017) emphasis is on all the women around the world at risk of becoming diabetic and indeed, those living with Diabetes Mellitus (a medical condition characterised by the inability of the body's cells to utilise blood glucose/sugar- either because of a lack of the control chemical,Insulin, or as a result of resistance to the effects of Insulin). You may ask the all important question on the minds of many men today,"why the emphasis on women"? To appreciate the magnitude of the problem and resultant global efforts towards amelioration, see International Diabetes Federation Infographics and other references below.

#Hypothesis:Mental Frustration Or Insanity? How Did 26 Female African Teenagers End Up Dead On The Mediterranean Sea?Root Cause Analysis!!!

Image Courtesy: Ufuoma Evuarherhe-"State Of The Nation"-Acrylic on Canvass.

How on earth can anyone explain the death of 26 African (suspected Nigerian) female teenagers on the Mediterranean sea over the past weekend? How indeed do we explain the migrant crisis (from Africa) and all the deaths that have occurred as a result, over the years? Our Hypothesis attempts to examine the root cause from a health related point of view. Why should anyone or group of persons bargain to be stuffed into what eventually becomes an overcrowded boat, with the risk of drowning at sea? MENTAL FRUSTRATION OR INSANITY?
Immigrant Boat on the Mediterranean Sea. Image Courtesy: United Nations.

The World Health Organisation in 1948 defined HEALTH to be,"a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity"!!!- Our emphasis here being "mental and social well-being. Have people tolerated their original home conditions to the points of becoming mentally sick and striving to leave at all cost? There is no gain saying that, all is not socially well in many parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, especially. That's pretty much old gist. The grave concern here is how bad things have become and the resultant effects on the mental health of young people especially.  At least these lot and others who have lost it or succeeded earlier, chose to take their lives into their own hands and made the risky move for perceived greener pastures. I know first hand that the frustration is beyond mental. People have to consciously suppress their civic emotions to be able to tolerate the lack..... Even amongst the so-called middle class citizens, the hardship is visibly palpable. My experience travelling via road from the Northern part of Nigeria through the Northern parts of West Africa to Dakar,Senegal, en route Europe for greener pastures is a story to be told another day. Lest the short analysis begins to sound political, I will reserve my comments on Government shortcomings in the Sub-Saharan region of Africa.
👀:Igboshere,Lagos: Public Health Photography by Dr Kevwe.

Our heartfelt condolence go out to family members of these brave young teenagers and others who have lost their lives in any of such struggles. Every life lost is one-too-many.

I am not encouraging others to make the leap of faith via these routes but one thing is certain, if nothing is done about living conditions as they are currently (power supply, housing, transportation, unemployment, security, slavery/occupational exploitation etc), mentally frustrated youths will keep leaving; not just as illegal immigrants but also, as bonafide young professionals seeking for better appreciation as well as, international/liveable wages and enabling environments to thrive.  This is my humble submission but everyone is subject to their own opinion,so you may as well share in the comment section below. For more information about the deceased ladies and the ongoing investigation into the matter, consult the references below.

#SkinCancer : Nigerian Artiste (Banky W.) Gives Touching Testimony After Third Surgery.

Bankole Wellington aka Banky W.

A  Dermatologist (skin care specialist) once told me on live Television that the skin is the most important of all human organs and I quietly digested that information with a pinch of salt but after reading the very touching testimony of Bankole Wellington a.k.a. Banky W., a successful Nigerian R&B Artiste whose skin has been threatened by cancer 3 times, I'm now beginning to consider that the Consultant might have a point, depending on how you choose to see it.

A wise man once said this: "Scars. A sign that you had been hurt. A sign that you had been healed." Scroll through the pictures to see mine. I'm sharing these because they're proof of what God has brought me through. And because somewhere out there, I know there's someone who needs to hear this. For those who've been wondering why I've been away so long..I had my 3rd surgery on a rare strain of skin cancer tumours in my shoulder last month. The first 2 times were over 10 yrs ago, then it recently resurfaced. But this isn't a sad story as much as it is a reminder, and a testimony. A reminder that you should never take life for granted. You only get 1 shot. Some people went to sleep and never woke up. Many others have lost the battle to cancer and other illnesses. Many are still fighting. U never know when your time will be up so don't waste another minute. It's also a testimony about the goodness of God. I think I had to go through this again to remember how merciful God is to me; Lord knows I don't deserve it but He saves me time and again anyway. I keep saying I need to write a book. I really, really do. The past few weeks of recovery have been tough, but beautiful. I'm finally back on my feet, feeling stronger and ready to get back to life. I'm especially thankful to my Nurse Susu for loving me and being by my side every step of the way - I don't deserve U 😍😭, my parents & siblings, in-laws & close friends for the love, support and prayers, my Pastors - Pastor Tony Rapu & Pastor Del Balogun of TPH, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya and Pastor Bayo Adeyokunnu - for constantly praying with and for me. And of course to Dr Wodajo & Dr Miralli & their teams - who God used to operate on me successfully. I'm thankful for life, provision and healing. Pls dont feel bad, or msg me with any worries.. God has done it, just thank Him for me. The pain will eventually go away but the scar won't - and I'm glad because it's a reminder to me of what God has done, and evidence to you of what He CAN do. I'm not stronger or better than anyone. I'm just a living testimony that no matter what u face, U can survive & thrive, by God's grace. #TheBankStatements #nowplaying #BlessingMe
A post shared by Banky W. (@bankywellington) on

The skin is made up of various layers of tough cells that can withstand varying degrees of assaults but at some point, instead of breaking down from repeated exposure to unfavourable conditions/substances, uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells (that can either invade tissue locally or spread to cause serious problems in other parts of the body) may be the case. In other words, cancer can occur. Whether it's a cancer that affects the: basal cells, squamous cells or melanin(skin pigment)  producing cells, no cancer is good news. So I advice you save your energy from bothering about the types,if you are not a Clinician and focus on prevention.

As with other cancers, the cause of skin cancer is unknown. Documented literature however reveal that exposure to (ultraviolet) rays mainly from the sun, might be the most implicated risk factor. Prevention is thus mainly geared towards administration of sun screen lotions and wearing of protective clothing, especially amongst those identified to be at risk. Other risk factors include: exposure to nuclear radiation during war and certain chemicals at the work place or in certain creams or even soaps-Find exhaustive list in References below.
Treatment options will depend on the type of skin cancer and extent of spread/severity. After assessment by a Specialist, surgical removal of affected skin tissue might be the best option. Otherwise, administration of certain anti-cancer (chemotherapy) medications or radiation therapy might be better choices. Whatever the case maybe, prevention if possible, is the best cure and early detection can save lives. People die from skin cancer,so every survival story is worth giving thanks for and most importantly, learning from. God bless you Banky W. You are more than a survivor. Yesterday, August 1st 2017, marked the beginning of "WORLD BREAST FEEDING WEEK 2017" and everyday until August 7th 2017, the World Alliance for Breast Feeding Action (WABA) supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nation's Children's Fund (UNICEF) and other stake holders all over the world, will continue to organise events and disseminate information to reiterate the theme this year - "SUSTAINING BREASTFEEDING TOGETHER". Study after study continue to prove that there is no perfect substitute for breast milk from the birth of a child through the first 6 months of life but with life and the many challenges that can arise, if breastfeeding has to be successfully sustained, then it must be together as a team and no the responsibility of the biological mother only. WHO Infographics below say it all.

#Peadiatrichealth: Diaries Of A Fast Tiring Team And Childhood Cancers - Dr Adeseye Akinsete

👀: pinterest.com

A child is born to proud parents. They have lofty plans for him/her. A bombshell comes at them in the form of a cancer diagnosis. The parents are devastated. The little one wonders why Mummy is crying and Daddy has tears in his eyes. Little Wazobia has leukemia. In the West, survival is over 90%. In Nigeria, survival is less than 5%. The child in the UK will have a bone marrow test done within 24 hours. All support systems are activated. The parents get time off work to deal with the stress. Wazobia's father approaches his HMO. They tell him that cancer care is not funded by them. Please tell me, what do they fund? He cannot get his bone marrow test done within one week because of many logistic issues. The system has no record of him, so, how will the system support his/her parents. The father sells his car, mummy sells her car. All the savings are utilized to pay for care. Some drugs are not available in the country. Pharmaceutical companies have problems/obstacles thrown at them from regulators so drugs are not available. Adult cancer patients get their medications because everyone knows about breast, cervical, prostate cancer. How many know children have cancers? Ten month olds with cancers! You must be kidding. After all the toil and pain, Wazobia dies leaving grieving parents, wondering siblings,  pained volunteers, tearful doctors and distraught nurses. The death. just a statistic. O Lord where do we go? What do we do?

In case you didn't know already, morning sickness refers to the feelings of recurrent nausea and associated vomiting experienced by a lot of women in early pregnancy. The exact cause is unknown but it is thought to be associated with hormonal changes. Though it can be very unpleasant to the mother to be,the baby is usually fine. Management usually entails a lot of rest and fluid intake,as well as,dietary modifications. A medication like the one mentioned above is however said to be the first FDA approved for home management. Some women go on to experience a very severe form of morning sickness referred to as Hyperemesis Gravidarum - severe nausea and recurrent vomiting associated with electrolyte (chemical ion) imbalance upon testing in a clinical setting. Patients are usually admitted for a few days and management modalities include symptomatic relief and fluid replacement. For more information, see References below.

WORLD HEPATITIS DAY 2017: How Do We "ELIMINATE #Hepatitis"? The Strategic Framework- WHO

👀: who.int
World Hepatitis Day 2017 Events are in full swing all around the world and the emphasis is on how we can all work together to "ELIMINATE HEPATITIS". Fortunately, the first GLOBAL HEALTH SECTOR STRATEGY ON VIRAL HEPATITIS by the World Health Organisation (WHO) was formulated to be executed in this regard between 2016 to 2021, towards ending Viral Hepatitis- the most common cause of inflammatory injury to the liver- with a focused longterm agenda of eliminating viral Hepatitis as a major Public Health treat by 2030. It is however important to get a better understanding of: how it all begins from transmission of the disease to infection; the possible effects of especially Hepatitis B & C on the liver and how things can progress if management control measures are not sort after; just to better appreciate why we must all strive to ensure that,as much as possible,we "ELIMINATE HEPATITIS" come 2030.
👀: liver.ca

Though Hepatitis can be caused by chemical assaults on the liver e.g. the longterm effects of alcohol abuse or short to longterm effects of certain drugs, as well as certain autoimmune conditions in which the body for unclear reasons, develops immune cells that attack the liver, majority of cases worldwide occur as a result Hepatitis Virus infections  and emphasis is usually on Hepatitis B & C because of the potential for chronicity (long term infection)/ progression to severe liver damage and cancer. Route of transmission for these 2 viruses would either be via: sharing of needles between  infected and non-infected intravenous drug users; transfusion of infected blood; mother-to-child transmission during delivery in some cases or via sexual intercourse with an actively infected/disease transmitting partner. The body reacts to initial injury to the liver, attempting to repair via inherent physiologic mechanisms that eventually fail, leading to more injury. Symptoms include: greenish-yellow discolouration of the eyes (jaundice) in majority of cases, generalised weakness, general feeling of unwell, nausea and vomiting, mild headaches in some cases +/- low grade increase in body temperature. In some cases, infection can however go unnoticed (asymptomatic) and coincidentally picked up during hospital visits for other complaints. In a number of cases, if the disease is not diagnosed via appropriate testing or ignored after diagnosis for reasons best known to the patient, continued liver injury eventually progresses to severe scarification/liver damage-"Cirrhosis" and then "Liver cancer"  in a percentage of the infected population,as illustrated above. The result of this trend was a whooping 1.34 million deaths worldwide in 2015 alone, from 325 million people identified to be living with chronic Hepatitis. Imagine the unidentified case figure and do a mental estimation of what the world has been dealing with. Now you appreciate the dire need for testing and identification of cases for onward treatment, as prevention/control of spread would even be defective, if gaps continue to exist in testing, diagnosis and treatment. The Infographic below gives percent estimates of "Testing and Treatment" gaps as at 2015,as well as the targets for coverage, come 2020 and eventually by 2030, if the strategic framework is followed to the latter.
👀: who.int

These targets can only be achieved via meaningful collaboration between the public and private stakeholders involved,as well as concerted efforts from members of the general public. The Global Health Sector Strategy on Viral Hepatitis and other policy efforts in the near future will work if as individuals or families,we:
*  present for appropriate testing.

* avoid unsafe sexual practices via -abstinence, being faithful or appropriate use of condoms (ABC)
* make injections safe by avoidance of needle/sharps sharing

* insist on appropriate screening of blood products and confirmation before transfusion

* partake in routine Antenatal care etc.

As a General Practitioner & Public Health Advocate, I have registered with the "NOHep" group and made my Pledges stating that, there is NO EXCUSE whatsoever,"as I will contribute my quota towards eliminating Hepatitis" .  We must all take our stands and make take vital action to see that,as a global unit,we "ELIMINATE HEPATITIS"!!!

"ELIMINATE #HEPATITIS" : World Hepatitis Day 2017 -The Problem Magnitude!!!W.H.O. INFOGRAPHIC

WORLD HEPATITIS DAY 2017 by DR KEVWE
Today "July 28th" is World Hepatitis Day 2017 and from all indications this year, the general consensus amongst stakeholders all over the world is to work towards a central goal, to "ELIMINATE HEPATITIS"-an inflammatory(body's reaction to injury) condition of the liver mostly caused by the Hepatitis Viruses.
👀:terra.es

We would explore simple measures that can be taken to "ELIMINATE HEPATITIS" in a follow up and more explanatory article, especially as has been summarised in the World Health Organisation's (WHO) first "Global Health Sector Strategy On Viral Hepatitis 2016-2021"but for now,we must first appreciate the magnitude of the problem,so as to better understand how important eliminating Hepatitis amongst other disease conditions,is to the world. See global statistics in the WHO Infographic below.

#MENSHEALTH - What Every Adult Should Know About The Famous Prostate & It's Care. Dr Anonymous

👀:en.wikipedia.com

Gentlemen, I am here to speak with you on Prostate. The topic is misleading. Is prostate strictly for men? Yes, ONLY men have prostate and ONLY men over 40 years but the healthcare enlightenment is for everyone. There is no woman who does not know a man 40 years and above, father, uncle, brother, son, friend, neighbour, colleague.
👀:wikihow.com

Essentially what I will be doing today is health promotion. Responsible health promotion must provide three things:

1. Information
2. Reassurance
3. A plan of action.

Let me start with a background on prostate health.

Everyone has a pair of kidneys. The job of the kidney is to remove waste. It is the LAWMA (waste management company) of your body. Everyday your blood passes through the kidney several times to be filtered. As the blood is filtered, urine is formed and stored in a temporary storage tank called the urinary bladder.

If there were to be no urinary bladder, as a man walks on the road, urine will be dropping.

Now think of the plumbing work in your house. Think of the urinary bladder as the overhead storage tank. From the storage tank, a good plumber will run pipes to other parts of the house, including the kitchen. God in His wisdom ran pipes from our urinary bladder to the tip of the penis. The pipe is called the urethra. Just below the bladder and surrounding the urethra is a little organ called the prostate gland.
👀:thehealthdigest.org

The prostate gland is the size of a walnut and weighs about 20grams. Its job is to make the seminal fluid which is stored in the seminal vesicle. During sexual intercourse, seminal fluid comes down the urethra and mixes with the sperms produced in the testicles to form the semen. So semen technically is not sperm. It is sperm + seminal fluid. The seminal fluid lubricates the sperm.

After age 40, for reasons that may be hormonal, the prostate gland begins to enlarge in some men. From 20 grams it may grow to almost 100 grams. As it enlarges, it squeezes the urethra and the man begins to notice changes in the way he urinate.
👀:siumed.edu

If you have a son under 10, if he has a little mischief like we all did at that age, when he comes out to urinate, he can target the ceiling and the jet will hit target. Call his father to do same, wahala dey. His urine stream is weak, cannot travel a long distance and sometimes may come straight down on his legs. So he may need to stand in awkward position to urinate. Not many men will be worried their urine stream cannot hit the ceiling. Toilets are on the floor and not on the ceiling. But other symptoms begin to show.
👀:wiki.how

* TERMINAL DRIPPLING:

The man begins to notice that after urinating and repacking, urine still drops on his pants. This is the reason why after an older man urinates, he has to ring bell. A younger man simply delivers to the last drop and walks away. Just see an older man coming from the bathroom. Sometimes he may clutch the newspaper closely to hide the urine stains, particularly on plain colored trousers.

* HESISTANCY:

At this point you wait longer for the urine flow to start. There are 2 valves that must open for you to urinate – the internal and external sphincters. Both open but because of obstructions in the urethra, you wait long for the flow to start.

* INCOMPLETE EMPTYING:

You have this feeling immediately after urinating that there is still something left.

As all these things happen, the bladder begins to work harder to compensate for the obstruction in the urethra. The frequency of urination goes up. Urgency sets in. sometimes you have to practically run into the toilet. Nocturia (excessive urination during night time) also becomes common. You wake up more than 2 times at night to urinate. Your wife begins to complain.

Men being men may not talk to anyone even at this point. Then the more serious complications start.

Stored urine gets infected and there may be burning sensation when urinating.

Stored urine forms crystals. Crystals come together to form stone either in the bladder or in the kidney. Stones may block the urethra.

Chronic urinary retention sets in. The bladder stores more and more urine. The size of the bladder is 40 - 60 cl. A bottle of coke is 50cl. As the bladder stores more urine it can enlarge up to 300cl. An overfilled bladder may leak and this leads to wetting / urinary incontinence. Also the volume may put pressure on the kidney and may lead to kidney damage.

What may likely bring the man to hospital is acute urinary retention. He wakes up one day and he is not able to pass urine.

Everything I have described above is associated with prostate enlargement, technically called benign prostate hyperplasia.

There are other diseases of the prostate like:

1. Prostatitis – inflammation of the prostate

2. Prostate cancer – cancer of the prostate.
👀:mensstyle.com.au

This discussion is on prostate enlargement.

I have bad news and good news.

The bad news is that almost everyman may have prostate enlargement if they live long enough.

The good news is that there are life style changes that can help the man after 40 to maintain optimum prostate health.

* NUTRITION:

Look at what you eat. 33% of all cancers, according to the US National Cancer Institute is related to what we eat.
Red meat everyday triples your chances of prostate disease. Milk everyday doubles your risk. Not taking fruits / vegetables daily quadruples your risk.

Tomatoes are very good for men. If that is the only thing your wife can present in the evening, eat it with joy. It has loads of lycopene. Lycopene is the most potent natural antioxidant.
Foods that are rich in zinc are also good for men. We recommend pumpkin seeds (ugbogulu).
Zinc is about the most essential element for male sexuality and fertility.

Men need more zinc than women. Every time a man ejaculates he loses 15mg of zinc. Zinc is also important for alcohol metabolism. Your liver needs zinc to metabolize alcohol.

*ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION:

As men begin to have urinary symptoms associated with prostate enlargement, it is important they look at alcohol consumption. More fluid in means more fluid out.

Drink less. Drink slowly.

*EXERCISE:

Exercise helps build the muscle tone. Every man should exercise. Men over 40 should avoid high impact exercise like jogging. It puts pressure on the knees. Cycling is bad news for the prostate. We recommend brisk walking.

*SITTING:
When we sit, two-third of our weight rests on the pelvic bones. Men who sit longer are more prone to prostate symptoms. Do not sit for long hours. Walk around as often as you can. Sit on comfortable chairs. We recommend a divided saddle chair if you must sit long hours.

*DRESSING:

Men should avoid tight underwear. It impacts circulation around the groin and heats it up a bit. While the physiological temperature is 37 degrees, the groin has an optimal temperature of about 33 degrees. Pant is a no - no for men. Wear boxers.  Wear breathable clothing.

*SMOKING:

Avoid smoking. It affects blood vessels and impacts circulation around the groin.

*SEX:
👀:sheknows.com

Regular sex is good for the prostate.

Celibates are more prone to prostate illness. While celibacy is a moral decision, it is not a biological adaptation. Your prostate gland is designed to empty its contents regularly.
